Benjamin Lay’s abolitionist activism had social repercussions down through the US civil war. But his vegetarianism, which for Lay was cut from the same cloth, also impacted history through his influence on US vegetarians such as Anthony Benezet, John Woolman, Joshua Evans, Sarah & Angelina Grimke, Bronson Alcott and Dr. William Alcott.
Come to the American Vegan Center and take a 76-minute walking tour where we explore these histories and how they fit together to tell the story of the growth of vegetarianism in the US, just one part of the legacy of Benjamin Lay.
This is a custom veg history tour for members of the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides. The tour departs from the steps of the AVC at 17 N. 2nd Street at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
