Benjamin Lay and Seth Tibbott

Benjamin Lay and Seth Tibbott — together at last!

In celebration of the 205th anniversary of the launch of vegetarian advocacy in the U.S., Tofurky founder Seth Tibbott collaborates with AVC Director Vance Lehmkuhl in an evening of entertaining and fascinating facts about Philly’s veg history and the inventing of alternative meats.

Vance will recount the launching of the US vegetarian movement in 1817 by the same group who went on to found, in 1850, the American Vegetarian Society, headquartered in Philadelphia.

Then Seth will discuss the growth of vegetarianism in the US including the development of alternative meats, from Ben Franklin’s tofu through John Harvey Kellogg’s ‘Protose’ to modern-day offerings like Tofurky.
