American Vegan Center
To kick off our 2024 tour season, the American Vegan Center is offering a special-edition veg history tour bookended by vegan food tastings.
Here at the Center, we’ll start at 1:00 p.m. with selections from Vegan Chef Lenka and Mark McKinney of Primary Plant Based. Then we’ll head out through Old City to hear about Philadelphia’s amazing veg history. Led by Vance Lehmkuhl, attendees will visit historic spots tied to vegetarian pioneers such as Benjamin Lay, Ben Franklin, the Grimke sisters, Sylvester Graham, Bronson Alcott, Caroline Earle White, Peace Pilgrim, and Alfoncie Austin. Vegetarian advocacy officially launched in the U.S. in 1817 just one block from the American Vegan Center, and the story of that group along with others illustrates Philadelphia’s groundbreaking role in American veg history.
Finally, the tour will conclude with a second vegan food tasting at the Khyber Pass, a beloved pub/eatery whose extensive vegan offerings have inspired other Old City venues to become more vegan-friendly. Ticket price for this event includes all food plus a personalized cartoon postcard drawn by Vance Lehmkuhl. Hope to see you there!
Note: In case of rain on 3/20, all tickets are valid for the 2nd edition on 3/23.
