On First Friday November 3 celebrate the 90th birthday of American Vegan Society founder Jay Dinshah!
While Jay is no longer with us, his legacy is going strong, and we’re marking it with a free party at the American Vegan Center.
Local entertainers will use poetry, song, and other media to regale you with stories of the “founding father” of U.S. veganism. After vowing to go vegan on a Philadelphia street corner in 1957, Jay devoted his life to making “vegan” a mainstream concept, including his creation of the American Vegan Society in 1960.
Come commemorate World Vegan Month, Dynamic Harmlessness Day, and Jay Dinshah. Groove to the oldies Jay spun as a DJ in the 1950s! Learn how Philadelphia’s cows helped him launch the vegan moovement.
And tastiest of all, enjoy samples of Jay Dinshah’s banana split ice cream, a brand-new flavor created for Jay’s birthday by Scoop DeVille, plus birthday cake from LUHV Food, carrot cake from Amira’s Delites, and Seraphim social beverage.
Party is 5-8 pm. Stop by anytime for a bite, a laugh, and a dance!
