Description

Description

A 76-minute walking tour through Old City focusing on its vegetarian and vegan history, led by Vance Lehmkuhl. Attendees will see historic spots (most, unfortunately, lacking historical markers) tied to vegetarian pioneers such as Benjamin Lay, Ben Franklin, the Grimke sisters, Sylvester Graham, Bronson Alcott, Caroline Earle White, Peace Pilgrim, and Alfoncie Austin. Vegetarian advocacy officially launched in the U.S. in 1817 just one block from the American Vegan Center, and the story of that group along with others illustrates Philadelphia’s groundbreaking role in American veg history.

This tour, and only this tour, will also include tidbits relating Philadelphia’s vegetarians to the French Revolution. If you love France, don’t miss this one!

Full price for this tour is $23.
